Of course, there are exceptions to every rule. As Ken said, you don't HAVE to be here, but I would strongly recommend that every aspiring writer move here as quickly as possible. Why? Because, as the cliche goes, Hollywood is a relationship-driven town, and many of the breaks that come your way as a writer are based on connections. Sure, you can be discovered and sell a script from Minnesota (I just interviewed Diablo Cody for an article, and she did exactly that). But it's much better to get out here and network and develop a fan base for you and your work. Your chances of both breaking in and sustaining your career increase dramatically.

Just my two cents.

You don't HAVE to be in LA but it helps. It's a numbers game and you just increase your odds. Plus, the weather is better here. On my blog today I posted some advice for those writers who are thinking of making the move.

Love your blog.

Ken
KenLevine.blogspot.com
