Mouse!

We’re installing a loft bed in Child One’s room to give a bit more room in there. The bedrooms in our home are cramped.

We moved the furniture out and discovered a mousetrap that I had placed there as part of my campaign a number of months ago. The trap was occupied.

The poor victim had triggered the trap with his side and the bar caught it crossways.

Child One recalled hearing the trap snap one night a long time ago, but hadn’t remembered it in whatever morning that was.

I wonder how many more mice frolic within our walls.

  • It’s kind of odd that we have hearing and vision tests but not so much smell or taste or touch tests. I guess taste and touch make sense in the “if you’re close enough to taste or touch it, it’s too late” version of evolution, but you’d think we’d have kept smell as an important factor in our evolutionary unconscious.

All of that to say, Child One did not notice the smell of said critter?

Funny, we were talking about that last night.

Even though the trap split this mouse like a tauntaun, it didn’t smell. Nor did any other mouse. I guess their little bodies dessicate quickly enough not to smell to human noses. This one sat long enough that it had two maggots and one empty pupa case on it.

I should e-mail Kathy Reichs and ask her what that means.

  • Cool gig. I shoulda taken a class with Dr. Bill Bass while I was at Tennessee, but I couldn’t bring myself to it. Plus, it didn’t really contribute to the degree. ;)

    we-ebs…NOoooo. You’re a Star Wars Geek?! NOooOO!

Oh ma-an…(sigh). Webs, webs…”tauntauns” aren’t real and they don’t smell, because they’re, well, not REAL!

And there’s no sound in space, either.
